Where we sail

Imagine a place where the land ends and the magic begins: Baja California in Mexico is a long peninsula south of California that separates the Pacific Ocean from the Gulf of California. The barren desert meets azure, crystal-clear waters, a sight that touches the soul. The sailing highlight par excellence is whale watching: close encounters with majestic gray or humpback whales in the warm lagoons, an emotional experience of nature that transports you away from everyday life.

Good food, fine wines, a refined atmosphere, and observing nature both above and below the water are part of Sabine and Carlos’ world of enjoyment, which they are happy to share. Sabine cooks on board (see also https://www.jonathan1.net/en/the-crew/sabine-koinig/), and is happy to cater for vegetarians on request. Both speak fluent Spanish, English and German.

While diving and snorkeling, you will encounter a unique and immense variety of species. These include sea lions, manta rays, whale sharks, and more.

Sailing

With temperatures ranging from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius and northern winds between 10 and 30 knots in winter, sailing is always a pleasure. On these trips, we sail distances of 10 to 25 miles daily. In addition to sporty or leisurely sailing accompanied by the sound of wind and waves, there is still plenty of time for dinghy or land excursions, as well as diving, snorkeling, kayaking tours, or SUP experiences to your heart’s content.

Diving / snorkeling

We sail, dive, and snorkel in the FOOTSTEPS OF JACQUES COUSTEAU. Back in the 1970s, he described Baja California as the aquarium of the world. Extensive coral reefs, sea lions, colorful schools of fish, drop-offs, crystal-clear water, underwater caves … many exotic things await us here. JONATHAN is equipped with a BAUER breathing air compressor, certified diving tanks, weights, and more (see https://www.jonathan1.net/en/the-adventure/diving/).

On JONATHAN, we dive in small groups tailored to individual wishes and independently of diving centers on land. To be completely self-sufficient, the catamaran is equipped with a modern drinking water system with mineral enrichment.
